Protecting Lions from Snares
Lions are a vital part of the ecosystem and a key attraction for eco-tourism. Unfortunately, they
can sometimes become caught in wire snares, which are typically set for bushmeat.
The Conservation Lower Zambezi project in Zambia helps protect lions by monitoring the area and providing veterinary care when a lion is found trapped in a snare. In South Africa, the Black Mambas, an all-female anti-poaching unit, patrol the Olifants West Nature Reserve to remove snares and prevent illegal hunting.
The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium proudly supports these conservation efforts. Proceeds from the The Kansas City Zoo Run will directly fund these programs, helping to keep lions safe in
their natural habitats.
During the registration process, you will have the option to "become a fundraiser", and then if you would like to you can "join a team" or "create a team".
